Denmark proposes new requirements for standard digital bookkeeping systems

As part of efforts to increase voluntary adoption of e-invoicing, the Danish Business Authority is proposing amendments to the requirements of standard digital bookkeeping systems (DBS). At this stage, requirements are not proposed for custom digital bookkeeping systems. Most new requirements are proposed to become mandatory from January 1, 2027.

Denmark outlines strategy to replace OIOUBL with Nemhandel BIS 4

The Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen) has published a strategy document outlining a planned transition from OIOUBL to Nemhandel BIS 4, a national Peppol BIS 4-based format with Danish extensions. Once the migration is complete, the Authority proposes amending the Bookkeeping Act requirement for digital bookkeeping systems to support both OIOUBL and Peppol BIS, so that only Nemhandel BIS support is required.

Denmark suggests phasing out OIOUBL in favor of Nemhandel BIS 4

On February 24, 2026, the Danish Business Authority suggested the national e-invoice format OIOUBL 2.1 is expected to be gradually phased out in favor of the introduction of Nemhandel BIS 4, an adaptation of the international Peppol BIS 4 format. The new standard would align with the European Norm standard (EN-16931), ahead of upcoming EU ViDA requirements.
